Kid-friendly Facebook Games

Many parents are concerned about what their children may encounter on the internet, and with good reason! Even supposedly-regulated sites such as Facebook will sometimes feature games and other content you don't really want your kids to see. Even the most innocent of search terms can bring up dubious results, and people aren't always what they seem to be.

Although Facebook says that only people over 13 can join, some younger children use their parents' or older siblings' accounts to play games. Also, just because a child is over 13 doesn't mean you want them to see some of the questionable content other people post on Facebook. However, there are several games on Facebook that are kid-friendly.

For the girly-girly types, It Girl is a fun game. It's basically a digital version of Barbie, where you can dress up your avatar and take her shopping to find the most awesome clothes. You can compete against other It Girls to see who is the hottest and find boyfriends to give you gifts. The only caveat is that some of the clothes on the upper levels are pretty sexy. Well, that, and that it gets addictive!

For the animal lovers, there is SuperPoke Pets. It's kind of like those Giga-pets that were popular in the '90s, but these pets never die. You can pick a 'regular' animal such as a dog or a cat, or an 'unusual' animal such as a penguin or a dragon. You can also give the animal a funny name, a 'regular' house, and decorate it however you want. It's not very often that you get to take care of a baby dragon and feed it ice cream, and give it a really fancy house! Your friends can also come by and play with your pet, and vice versa. It's really cute! If you want to take care of animals on a larger scale, there are games like Farmville or Frontierville. In these games, you can develop a ranch or farm and exchange gifts with your friends to help them build up their businesses. The games have gifts you can give each other to help them along, or just to be silly.

The Breast Cancer Site Games on Facebook offers several quick-play games that have a good purpose. The games exercise your intellect and mental abilities while contributing to a good cause. For each game you play, the application will donate ten cents to breast cancer research each minute you play. It's a small amount for each game, but they add up!

As you can see, there are several fun games on Facebook that are safe for kids to play. These are only a few of literally hundreds of games! The only thing to watch out for is that some games allow members to directly chat with each other. The game developers try to block any offensive content, but it doesn't always work. Either way, Facebook does feature many kid-friendly games; you just have to search for them.

  1. It girl sounds fun! I'd never heard of it, and I'm not sure my daughter has either. Lol, my 65 year old mom is a big fan of Farmville....which is just hilarious to me.

  2. Yes, It Girl is fun! It's fun to create an avatar to buy and wear clothes you'd like to wear in real life, but could never get away with!

LOL yes that *is* funny, especially since a lot of people from our parents' generation have no clue as to how to operate Facebook, much less the games!

They aren't games, but Facebook has all kinds of 'gifting' applications where you can send your friends all kinds of virtual presents. I like the 'redneck fire alarm' (a pan of Jiffy Pop hanging from the ceiling) someone sent me. :)
